Archeologist have found game boards in the ruins of acient homes in Greece, Rome, Persia and the Far East. The Romans called the game tabula,, which in English means tables. When the Romans invaded Britain, tabula went with them. adults and children played tables during the Middle Ages. In the 1600s the name of thr game was changed to backgammon, which means, "back game" in Middle English.
